Jennifer McNeill Clinical Neuropsychologist

Neuropsychologist

Jennifer McNeill trained at Monash University and The University of Melbourne specialising in Clinical Neuropsychology. Clinical Neuropsychology is an area of psychology specialising in brain behaviour relationships. It involves assessment of cognitive (ie brain functions) and psychological functions (ie mental health). Her previous research involved the study of brain attentional mechanisms. She returned to Gippsland to work for Latrobe Regional Hospital twelve years ago and works across sub-acute clinics (ABI rehabilitation & Cognitive Dementia and Memory Service) and mental health services (inpatient and community). She has also worked in private practice as Gippsland Neuropsychology Services across the region for several years. Her role involves neuropsychological assessment and therapeutic intervention for diagnostic, rehabilitation and capacity issues.

Clinical Neuropsychological assessments are comprehensive and involve a holistic extensive assessment that takes into account each individual’s personal history along with psychological and cognitive processes in order to provide detailed reports. A comprehensive Clinical Neuropsychological assessment takes several hours to complete when including a comprehensive report.

Please note, services involving neuropsychological testing are currently not subsidised by Medicare, however, for some people there are sources within the community from which funding may be obtained to assist with the cost.

Jennifer can provide general counselling sessions (see Focused Psychological Strategies) for which the fee is subsidised by a Medicare rebate if a valid referral is provided by a GP (under a GP Mental Health Plan), or a letter of referral from a Psychiatrist or Paediatrician. These sessions can be particularly valuable for people with a brain impairment and associated mental health problem.
